About

I was born in Chicago and ran away from home to the University of Illinois-Urbana. Later I again ran away from Chicago’s freezing winters and humid summers to graduate school at the University of British Columbia in Canada. At 34, I left the USA to start what became a 25-year career teachingĀ  English as a foreign language (EFL) inĀ Arabia, Asia and Europe. Outside Lisbon, Portugal, I’m now writing THE EXPATS: DAYS & NIGHTS IN ARABIA condensing 15 years of living in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman into one book.
When young, people often asked me what I was running from, as if changing locations was a sign of weakness. To me, I was an explorer – racing towards adventures.
